Driving on different sized spare tire temp. Is it okay?

Had a bad gash surface and need to buy replacement tires for the front. My car is setup with the stormer rims on Yokohama Prada Spec-X 285/35/R22 and the spare is the original 12' supercharged 20's on Michelin 255/50/R20.

I believe I have heard issues can arise with the 4wd systems and having mix matched rims. I hope to have the new tires tomorrow but the tire order may take until Monday... Is it safe to drive until then?

While you may not notice any changes, and the LR systems are most likely smart enough to counteract the change.. I would absolutely not drive with mismatched wheels, because parts are expensive, especially when you have a choice not to need them.

Oh good grief Charlie Brown. As a temp situation you will have absolutely no issues. Don't hit the freeway at 80MPH, don;t make any fast corners, and be careful not to curb shot that stylish black doughnut rim.

Seriously... you will be fine for a temp. The issue that folks will brow beat you for will be running rolling circumference differences between sides or front to back... long term. As you have the forethought to replace a pair on an "axle" you will be fine with no ill impact or major drama.
Common sense is not a gift, it is a punishment.
Because you have to deal with everyone who doesn’t have it.

Thanks for the input! Definitely temporary, I wish they had the tires in stock to replace today but hopefully can get them on no later than Monday. Sadly life does not stop in the meantime... unless of course it would hurt the baby... then it becomes a different story :p

You will be fine even for a relatively extended period. Mismatched wheels really has little to do with it and width doesnt matter, the only concern is overall diameter. Your stock tire is 30" and your new tire is 29.8" good enough that you probably will never notice.

Re: Driving on different sized spare tire temp. Is it okay?

There is only a 2.4mm difference between the rolling radii of the 22” tyres and the 20” tyres (assuming the same amount of wear). Tyres nominally have a 9mm tread depth when new and they’re replaced at 3mm tread depth so their rolling radius changes by 6mm during the tyre’s life. If, like me, you wouldn’t worry about potential driveline damage if you had to replace a single worn tyre with a new one, you certainly don’t need to worry about the much smaller radius difference between these two tyres.

To put this in context, if the vehicle has three brand new tyres and one worn (3mm tread depth) tyre the front and rear propshaft speeds at 70 mph (assuming 3.73 final drive ratio) will be 23 rpm different i.e. 2945 rpm vs 2922rpm.

Oh, and that's our hunting cabins garage! Just stores boats, a 10k mile 2000 F-150, and a few muscle cars that belong to my cousins that live up there.
