I have bag-less suspension on my 07 RR and struts are done in the front. I have been looking all over and all I see is complete packages (strut + bag). Where can I get just the struts for the front? Any help would be great. Thanks
There are many aftermarket coil conversions available. Struts usually only come with proper bag or with coil. I don;t think I have ever seen just struts available Instead of searching for struts search for coil conversions. I would think sites with coil kits would be more likely to have struts as a separate item.
Thanks. I cant convert to any kit out there. None of them work on my car. I have a true custom configuration. But I will look into getting just struts from those manufacturers. If anybody has good suggestions on these manufacturers - let me know. Thanks
I have OEM struts but custom spring with custom bracket. So coachbuilder wont help. Im trying your idea and contacting kit manufacturers now. I should have an answer soon.
I am curious if your custom setup is welded to your original strut or pinned with set screws or something similar. It would make sense that the kit you have was designed to be transferred to the next unit if the shock failed in service. I guess it would depend on whether any welding of parts could be done with the shock assembled and usually things that can be disassembled cost more to make.

What I mean by custom, is that this is a stretch limo. So the spring is EXTRA HEAVY DUTY. With a bracket that slides onto the strut to hold much wider spring in place. When I said custom, I meant that I cant use any of the KITS available on the market. Its funny how these guys mod these limos. My rear suspension spring comes from a heavy duty custom made spring for an Infiniti QX56 or QX80. And it fits nicely but or course it needed special bracket to that it doesnt fall out of place. Front springs are made to handle certain weight and height of the car. Im in NYC
This where having rig info in your signature make a huge difference. SO if I am following the rear EAS was replaced with coils and retained standard shocks. The front has some unknown coil bodged over the factory strut instead of using an off the shelf, heavy duty coil conversion.
Another thought that came to mind is to purchased used struts from a breaker and remove the EAS bags. It is usually not the actual strut that fails. Arnott might be an option as they have pallets of used struts laying around. Perhaps they can ship you a pair of front struts that they have tested.
Thanks RR. I was thinking of going to the junk yard and doing that. But used is used. Its not so easy to remove these darn springs becasue they are loaded. One time I had some random INDY mechanic work on it and he couldnt even take them off the spring. There is soo much tension on those springs its crazy. Its a 15k lbs vehicle if empty and it runs up to 20K lbs full.
I contacted strut masters but no reply yet. Worst come to worst I will have to buy a set of rebuilt arnots and sell the bags for $100 each. Im just trying to save myself extra work.
Here's an option, if you want to do it right. I've done this myself on offroad rigs I've built
Weigh each corner of the Rover and call a custom coil spring manufacturer.
I have used www.Deaverspring.com www.Alcanspring.com
Both with success. This will involve some work on your part though. They need the weights for each corner and the assembly its going onto. Either send them a strut or take measurements and drawings.
Nobody here is going to be of any help, with it being a spring that has been made to fit, vs a standard configuration
I think OEM struts will work. But nobody sells them without bags. Weird. How do you guys with regular coil overs get your replacement struts once they are done? It must be the same process. There is no reason to buy another kit.
Its been good for last 3 years or even longer. So any OEM type of strut will work. Nothing crazy. Springs need to be custom but struts maybe be OEM style. Vehicles does very little miles.
I tried CarId. That is probably where I will order Full arnots as my last resort.
There is only one that is bare without a bag. But of course, its out of stock without UNKNOWN date for the stock to come back which means they not planing to get it back.
You can try to call Arnott then, and see if they will sell their cores or new ones.
You can also email around, Island4x4, etc to see if they can help. What is the weight of the vehicle though, to require coils?
Arnott will not do it. They dont have time for that. Strutmasters will not do it because they dont have time for that. Bilstain is probably too big for them to mess with one individual what wants a pair of struts.
I think the only way to do it is to ask someone who just did a conversion and to have them call the company and ask to buy spares (for the future). maybe then they will sell them separately.
No, They are brand new. They wont tell me who manufactured it. But I was waiting for one side for over 3 weeks.
