ignition key will not turn

OK, my battery went flat after standing for 2 weeks, the ignition key will not turn, put in new battery , the bloody key will still not turn , what am i missing ???. I tried the lock/unlock the car from the outside , tried the spare key, still nothing

your help would be greatly appreciated

Is your steering wheel locked? Try moving it while turning the key.

Don't panic, go back to basic.
Battery should be O.K.
When you put key into lock( without turning ), do you hear unlock steeringwheel ?( klicking noise?)
If not check battery or -connections again.
If yes check fuses.

ok , no clicking of steering column , which fuses?, checked all the obvious ones in the glove box, steering column moves, seat moves, lights work, checked ecu fuses

ok , I checked every fuse in the glove box, and the rear compartment , all OK, battery voltage reads a healthy 12.65V, checked under both seats just in case there was a fuse link there , still no luck

Did you lock and unlock using the remote? Maybe the security system is still on?

Sounds like the key has lost programming with the car. I had bought an extra key for mine and had 2 out of the 3 reprogrammed to the car. The old key would lock and unlock the car but not start it.

I had this problem with my 2003 RR. Try putting the key in the driver door lock and turning it 2-3 times. Somehow this would work for me. Road assistance told me to do this more than once.

Spoke to the dealer this morning , seems your conclusions of loss of program is correct, - i tried the door thing , but no luck- the bloody thing is now on the back of a transporter (at my cost of course!) to get everything put back into sync.at the dealer.

update, took dealers 2 days to diagnose the problem, apparently my ignition ecu has an internal short!!!, so tomorrow i get my Rangie back and the dealer gets $1600.00 - sometimes owning a Rangie really sucks!
