    2014 RRS or 2013 ML63....

i have driven both trucks but having a hard time choosing which to buy, really love the trunk space on the ML but that 3rd row seat will com in handy for my son and his friends on outing's. the HP in the ML is awesome but the milage on the RRS is far better. paying sticker for the sport sucks and the ML63' only has 5k on the dash. anybody have both trucks or insights? thanks..

I am SOOO glad you posted this. We're actually buying an ML for the wife this week.
Here's a couple of things that may help you:

    1) Offroad capability. The RRD wins this hands down.
    2) Looks - IMO, the RRS wins this without much of a fight although the new ML isn't too bad.
    3) Ride height adjustment - I didn't see this in the ML we're getting the wife but she's getting bluetec and not 63 ...
    4) Price - The ML63 is easily $15k over the RRSV8 price when similarly equipped. (Although MB has much better Infotainment).

And now for my final trick.... Resale Value:

    I had a:

2010 RRS HSE for 4 years 44k miles. Original MSRP $67k. Carmax offered me $39K.

    My wife's car:

2011 MB E-Class Cabrio (Convertable) 2 years, 18k miles. Original MSRP $78k. Carmax offered me $39k TODAY.

So it's break it down. Since there were both low miles per year, I will ignore the milleage in the calc and just stick with years of ownership (2 vs 4) even though technically the RRS would fair better if we included the millage calc. :

    MB: ((78000 - 39000)/ 78000) / 2 years = 25% per year (50% after 2 years)
    RRS: ((67000 - 39000)/ 67000) / 4 years = 10% per year (41% after 4 years)

I know we're not comparing apples to apples here, but I have owned the following MBs in the past (2003 C , 2004 E, 2007 CLS63, 2011 E...) All of them were the same ****ed story. Their value drops faster harder than a piano on a Morris Marina.

I personally think it's a no brainer. But when you compare the RRS SE to the ML350 Bluetec, the Bluetec gets the edge on price and fuel and it's actually known to hold it's value rather okay since it's diesel. Plus the wife wants it so who am I to say no.

thanks trez, i agree in part with what u are saying. the ml63 i'm looking at is a 2013 5k miles on it, had a sticker of 110k for sale at 83k, the RRS se has msrp of 73k with out tax license and fees, RRS hse she has a sticker of 77k w/o tax or license and that is the one i prefer.
for instance a friend of mine just bought a 2010 RR autobiography for 53k that had a sticker of 122k. i have owned bmw's and mercs so maybe that is why i might be hesitating a little. i liked the RRS when i drove it, brakes, handling power is all good, i just hate paying msrp...

I'm trading my 2011 ML350 for my 2014 RRS in April when it arrives. I cannot wait for the day!

The MB has an old school suv feel to it... Just kinda bumbles along on the streets and not a lot of steering feel. A lot of roll and wobbling over bumps. Take large bumps well, but rattles on tiny ones...

I came from a SL500 which I loved. The ML doesn't give me the Mercedes feel...

To back up what Trez said, there was some reputable auto site that had listed the RRS as one of the best vehicles on the road in terms of resale value over the last 5 years. Since the previous generation was a modified LR3, I have to think that the current one will hold its value even better (if that is possible).

My wife had a 2006 ML500. Worst car we've ever owned. It was the first year for the 7 speed transmission along with the new body style. Tranny never shifted right. MB replaced the whole unit after 4 months of ownership. At 60,000 miles, suspension bushings started going out along with a valve cover leak. $1200 in repairs and we were told the bushings in the other 3 corners would need replacing too. This was purely a street car; never off road and never seen snow. The paint was thin and prone to chips. We couldn't get rid of the car quickly enough. My wife loves her 2012 X3. I think the MLs are made in South Carolina. Must have bought a vacation car.

I'm not gonna defend the ML here, but really? The X3 is better? I think Top Gear had it on their top 10 worst cars ever. FYI, they picked that horrible Lexus convertible as THE worst car ever which I FULLY agree with.

I'd take 1 X3 over 2 MLs any day. The turbocharged 6 is a rocket (this coming from a drag racer) and it'll turn circles around an ML.

Difference is like day and night. I had ml 2011 for almost 2 years and it was a dump truck compared to RRS. ML is a shame for MB brand. This is much better car than ML crap 2014 RRS or 2013 ML63....-imageuploadedbyag-free1387493373.248502.jpg

ML and GL are made in Alabama. BMW makes the X3 and X5 in South Carolina.

There you have it. South Carolinans know how to build a car.

Def the RRS. Way better fuel economy, lighter, better looking. Will probably run circles around the ML63.

FYI, we ended up getting a new E350 for the wife two nights ago instead of the ML. I really like the E-class and they discounted it over 10k so that was good. It's got a lot of pickup and go for a 4-door saloon. Very happy with it so far.

    Re: 2014 RRS or 2013 ML63....

    Sexybeast,

What did u get. I'm in the same boat except between a 2014 rrs sc or 2014 ml63. The dealer is taking $12,600 off the ml63 putting it at an even $100,000 while the range is at $90,000. My main concern is ride comfort. Even on comfort mode the ml seemed very rough. I live in pot hole city (New Orleans). Problem is... RRS Sc won't be here for 3 months. Should I take the ML or wait for a RRS? How is the ride compared to the ml? I have a 2013 SL550 I love but there's a baby on the way. My wife has a g63 but is rough too. Don't know how the baby will do in a rough riding car. Is the ml a good deal? I know its a lot off a new car but they seem to depreciate ALOT!!!! Even then I'll lose around 17-18k the first year. What about the RRS?

    Thanks.
