no and no....evoque is not a range rover IMO
Replace the word "Evoque" with "Sport", and it feels like the summer of 2005 on rangerovers.net, all over again.![]()
Can we move on please? It's a done deal, it's already out there, they can't undo the name anymore to please the "Not Worthy!" crowd. Let's welcome the newest, baby Range Rover with open arms and hope they sell brazillions of them to beautiful people who would have walked straight into a BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Acura, etc. dealership otherwise. Land Rover will stay in business, make lots of money, make even better cars and we will all benefit.
You guys don't drive a Range Rover either, you know... You drive a Range Rover Sport.
Umberto, well said.
And anyway, the real Range Rover is the Classic 3.5 liters![]()

FlyersFan and I are always on the same page. I actually don't like saying "I drive a Range Rover" because it sounds, well, a little douchey. I think it's much more professional and non-boistrous to say "I drive a Land Rover" as well.
I know I might get flamed for saying it's douchey, but that's just my opinion. There are a lot of people that can't afford these cars. No need to rub it in their face.
The only ones who I truly believe can say Range Rover, are the guys that drive the big rigs.
(Oh, I can feel the hate from some of you for saying this. Again, I apologize. It's just my opinion.)

Not at all TWM. Most purists to the mark still call the "Range Rover" Sport just a Sport. As Umberto noted already the Evoque is just following in the same pattern. It's nothing more than shirt tail marketing to garner more sales.
Now let's see who flames me now.
Customers don’t expect you to be perfect.
They do expect you to fix things when they go wrong.
I just remember a funny situation from years back. I had my Defender my last semester of my senior year.
I told a professor that I drove a Land Rover and she had the thought in her mind of (with a pissed off attitude) "you drive a $70,000 SUV?" Real piece of work that professor was.
My next truck was a Hummer but that was different I made sure to tell which one I had for a lot of reasons.
1. The original Hummer did not have any negatives in most people's eyes. They just thought it was cool.
2. And mine was actually cheaper than a brand new h2.

It's rather like the various Rolls Royces I have had over the years. If people actually knew just how cheap many of these cars actually are they wouldn;t have such a pissy attitude towards the folks that own them.

I never specify what I drive...........what I drive is a "Truck" when and if someone would ask.
To answer the question, no. But who cares? It's a Land Rover and it's a good looking little SUV. Plus so far all I've seen driving them around is attractive ladies so THUMBS UP!!
Who knows, my wife might trade in her E60 M5 for an Evoque.![]()

Absolutely not. Range Rover is no more a model, it's a brand; a make of it's own.
I've looked at the Evoque and I've looked at the new Ford Explorer. Status, ego and cache' aside, I'd rather buy, own and drive a new Ford Explorer.
Of course it's just my personal opinion (with by virtue of a forum, we can each share here), but to me it's too small.

I just got the new Evoque, and my opinion is yes and no for the answer to the question. I don't really consider it a Range Rover, due to it's size and engine, but I do consider it a Range Rover because of it's luxuriousness if you know what I mean. I didn't want a Range cause of the gas mileage, I already have a car that gets 12 MPG Highway if I'm lucky and it only holds 2 people plus I can't use it in the winter. So I wanted something practical, yet luxurious, with good gas mileage and the Evoque just was way more appealing than the competition, especially when you add on what the Evoque comes with standard with some add ons it's even cheaper than the competition. That's what I considered. It's an awesome ride and I love it.
I couldnt have said it better. I love my evoque but I know its not the true definition of what a Range Rover is. I can see it more as a Land Rover bc of the engine but in terms of equipment I see it as a Range Rover. In regards to the hardcore haters on here I would have to say that there is no reason to be so protective of the HSE because every soccer mom in my neighborhood has one and they have never seen dirt let alone mud. I would say 99.9% of them are all bought for the same reasons. So just because you have a v8 doesnt mean that there is any reason for it especially when you live in the city. As for the body style of the evoque vs the HSE, I feel its a nice change. Ive worked on Range Rovers for 12+ years and became VERY bored with the styling and the problems. The evoque has a new style even if it isnt by standard definition a "range rover" and everyone that asks me about my evoque says its great to see something new because the hated the "box". Either way, cant we all just calm down about how much we hate my truck?
I think of the "Evoque" now!!! Love it...best car I ever drove. It's amazing.
