First time range rover buyer help!!!!

Hi I am interested in purchasing a range rover evoque but I have
Heard bad things about range rover reliability and I want a car I can depend
On for the next 6 to 8 years since it will take me 6 years to pay off!!!
So what am I getting myself into???? It's either the range rover or a new
Lexus IS 350 which I keep hearing has good reliability. So will I get screwed
Buying the range rover or have they improved??? How much are tires and regular
Repair costs? I'm 23 and need something good! HELP!!!!!

It may not be my place to say this, and I don't mean to be rude, but if it's going to take you 6 years to pay off a car you really shouldn't be buying it. Besides it's a luxury brand so the maintenance is going to be a lot higher than other brands, your tires and related services are probably going to be double or so "regular" brands. On top of that the depreciation if going to cost you a few hundred bucks a month in lost value.

This is a new model so i'm hoping it'll be more reliable than the others in the range (zing), but until it's been out for a couple of years it's hard to tell how well it'll hold up.

I would buy a Nissan Murano, it is pretty much the same and just as ugly, but cheaper to work on and more reliable.

I find it hard to swallow that anyone is in a position to comment on reliability for a platform that is brand new and has not been real world tested to the public. The Evoque is in no way a transition or evolution of previous Land Rover products and has no comparision for for the weekend mechanic.

Customers don’t expect you to be perfect.
They do expect you to fix things when they go wrong.

I am also a first time buyer, and I just purchased one,
    The LAND ROVER has been out for many many years, they got worse after the Indian company TATA bought the Jaguar and Range Rover line of the British market;
Land Rovers are quite expensive to maintain, BUT having said that, remember that the EVOQUE is a 4 cilinder vehicle, that alone brings the maintenance cost down by at least 30%, so maybe it gets closer to a regular brand vehicle.
So far I like my EVOQUE, it is a great and powerful car, in fact I am pretty much like you, I will need to pay in about 5 years and yes, I had to finance, why not, if you like the car, why would you listen to people telling you to buy a MURANO, PLEASE, no comparison at all! plus the EVOQUE will turn heads, unlike the other MODELS no longer turn heads...everywhere I go people will say, finally Range Rover has built a really nice designed car! go figure...great car overall!
Buy it and enjoy it, I am sure you will.

    Regards
    brazeagle

By the way, go to the EVOQUE FORUM at http://www.evoqueforums.net/
I am sure you will find more compatible people in there!
    Beast regards,
    Good luck with your decision.

Also if you want to see what happened in 2008 with TATA and Range Rover follow this site for info:

    neuronurse,

you must be making pretty good money to be able to afford a 50k car at age 23. if you are just out of school and just starting your career, i would avoid spending so much money on a post-college vehicle. IS is more suited for your age and cheaper, maintenance wise too.

Unless you in IB (investment banking) or law profession I would reconsider. But we are a country of wants and desires not practicality so...go with what makes you happy, but consider the cost down the road.

Re: First time range rover buyer help!!!!

I'm contemplating buying an Evoque in the next few months or so, and worry about the reliability issues. I have a 2003 Infiniti FX 35 with 131,000 miles on it, which still runs like a clock, but I'm getting ready for something new. Since the Evoque engine is a pretty highly regarded Ford turbo and the trans is Japanese, wouldn't that make it a very different animal than past Rovers? I do hear that other stuff goes awry, but the drivetrain sounds pretty solid, though I'm thinking that the Ford 4 banger is not going to be as bulletproof as the Nissan 6 that lives in the FX.

For the OP, although I can't speak to reliability issues on the Evoque (as I'm waiting on mine), I can praise the Lexus IS 350. I have both an IS 350 and GS 350 and other than the cost of gas, they both have been trouble free. If your wanting to saave some $$$ and don't need a hot rod, look at the IS 250 if you rule out the Evoque.

Its people like you that make this by far the most uncomfortable RR forum online. Any other forum would have either deleted your post or blocked you so others dont have to deal with a toolbag just getting on here to write stupid remarks. If you dont like our vehicle, dont comment.

YOU "evoqued" are the one that is entirely out of line. If you take a moment to read our guidelines YOU are the one that should have your post deleted. YOU are the one that should be banned. At no time has woldd90 made any out of line comment, used profanity or anything else not in keeping with the guidelines. YOU on the otherhand have popped in here getting all pissy because someone doesn't care for a certain model of rig and called them a "toolbag" and accused them of making "stupid" remarks. So as a newbie here how about if YOU don't comment if YOU don't care for what someone has said.

I am on the side of members being able to voice their opinions without being called names or being berated because someone thinks their comments are "stupid".

I disagree with the Nissan Murano analogy as well, but it never occurred to me to call the poster a "toolbag writing stupid remarks"... On a forum where we invite everyone to be respectful of each other's opinions, no matter how much we may disagree with them, that's uncomfortable to read. Not the Murano remark, that's just an opinion. If you are looking for an Evoque lovefest with fanboys only as registered members, and where everyone else gets banned or edited, this ain't your forum, move along.
