Re: New Evoque revealed-another sad day for the Range Rover

Sorry, but to be plunged into depression just because a carmaker decides to produce a product many buyers want is over the top. Does the existence of the Evoque make other Rovers less able to ford streams and take on the outback? Uh ... that would be no. It takes nothing away from the marque - it adds to it.

Be proud of the brand of car/truck you drive, but keep things in perspective.

By the way, Land Rover says the Evoque has a "wading depth" of 500mm, or almost 20 inches. Not shabby ... especially since virtually no owner will ever need it!

I see where Leftlane is reporting that Rover is planning an Evoque XL - a bigger and longer Evoque.

    Oh, the humanity!

I like it but it just wasn't big enough for me.

However I have a problem with all manufacturers taking a model and throwing it on everything. Nissan Pathfinder ARMADA. Really you needed the Pathfinder name to sell it originally just to bring out a new vehicle? Toyota Camary SOLARA? They don't even share a similar look.

Same with the Evoque. Land Rover Range Rover Evoque. But then again I drive a LR RR Sport so I don't have much room in this thought but at least (in my opinion anyway) the Sport and the Full Size Range Rover both look like previous Range Rovers.

I definitely would not like the Brand to Change. It feels like the Land Rover brand is being killed in the US anyway. Next year there will only be 1 Land Rover (without an RR after it) since the Freelander will be probably abandoned.

In the end who cares. The competitors have nothing on the brand. MB hates the Heritage of the Geländewagen and HUMMER is gone. Aside from JEEP no other brand can be considered a lifestyle vehicle. All others are just modes of transportation.

I was fortunate to drive one a few months back in California at the Monterey/Pebble Beach gathering. Land Rover was generous enough to let me take one for a spin. I was impressed overall, the power, the body control, ride compromise, etc. was better than expected. The only demerit I could think of was the usual four cylinder idle sound and overall slightly harsh feel. I came away impressed, but in the end I bought a used 2008 RRSS with 16k miles on it. I do not regret the decision but I could not fault someone who goes for the Evoque either. Just my two cents, and they are different market segment cars to most people.

Oh oh oh! I've got a good one! "The Mini Countryman. Another sad day for the Mini name." That's what this thread sounds like. "The Porsche Cayenne. Another sad day for the Porsche name." Get ready for the Maserati SUV.

Ha ha ha, Flyersfan! That's exactly what I'm talking about. God forbid you come out with a different model. It's not like they came out with a Smart car.

By the way, this thread is scaring away potential members on this site, and that's not good. There are plenty of people buying these cars, (My sister is still waiting for hers) and this should be their first place to hang out. (So many Land Rover owners with advice and info.) That's not the case though. This thread comes off as hostile and not a good first impression. It should be closed and possibly moved to the general discussion thread.

New members, we'd love to have you here. We are proud of our new, little Rangie in the family. Don't let the OP's bitterness sway you from us. You are one of us.

Oh dear lourde are you serious?

If we closed or moved every thread in which someone voiced an opinion that others didn't care for the mods would have to get paid full time wages. Of course if folks quit bumping the thread to the top with more off topic pics and whining then the thread would have stayed back down at the bottom of the forum.

This thread is no different than the whining nad complaining when the sport came out. Purists felt it had no business with the Range Rover badging and should have been the Land Rover Sport. Same rants, different name. If someone is so sensitive that differing opinions are going to scare them away from a forum then they need to go play on a Disney or Pooh site for hand holding.

Customers don’t expect you to be perfect.
They do expect you to fix things when they go wrong.

    Really?

The sport at least looked like it came from the previous Range Rover. The Evoque is a total separation of what the Range Rovers have looked like in the past.

For the record I like my RRS. If Land Rover decided to change the name to Land Rover Sport I wouldn't care. 5 names is pretty long.

I DID however have a problem with GM creating the "H1" Stupid name. Funny there were so many people that 1. didn't know the original HUMMER ever existed and 2. Thought GM created HUMMER. ROTFLMFAO

Has anyone thought that it looks just like the new scirocco with giant wheels?

I will say that the only reason that I found this forum was bc I wanted to find some info about my Evoque but the reason I joined this forum was bc of this thread and because how disgusted I was with it. Im glad to see that some people are happy with the evolution though because there is no reason for all bickering.

You want to earn your badging? Come and play with the rest of us.

Come on, seriously, we don't bite. I've seen quite a few good reviews from the pontifs of the industry about the Evoque. So now it's time to put up... come and play. Each new model has endured it's share of flaming, and a few hardy forerunners have taken their beloved vehicle into the wilds and earned the respect that the name represents.

I'll never forget the L322 that slammed itself dead into a mudhole that only the most highly modified LR's could even think of getting through. Everyone held their breath, he was in to his floorboards and had to be winched out, but to the cheers of the crowd he emerged, muddied, bloodied, but in great form. That's the LR experience.

Come and play and earn your badging.

Agreed - buy the vehicle that feeds your needs, not the one that feeds your ego based on name recognition and all that implies.
