Overview
With
the introduction of the new "2003" Range Rover in 2002, Overfinch
produced a number of enhancements in addition to its 50S version of the
new BMW derived V8 engine. Although production of the engine came to an
end with the 2006 model year introduction, Range Rover
enthusiasts can still order customized Overfinch
Range Rover accessories and u[grade kits for the 2003-05 models, to
cosmetically enhance their existing vehicles to their own exacting
requirements.

2003-05 Product
Range
Overfinch produces enhancements for almost every area of the 2003-05
Range Rover -- performance, handling and roadholding, refinement,
appearance and
comfort. They can create a totally personalised vehicle.
Options include potent engine enhancements, exterior body
treatments and kits, braking upgrades, custom interiors, third row
seating, and a host of
other custom accessories including special wheels, exhausts, paint
jobs, leather, entertainment systems, etc. Whether
you wish to turn your Range Rover into a powerful Grand Tourer,
effortlessly whisking you and your family across the country in
cosseted
luxury, or just want some extra seating capacity for your children,
Overfinch can help.

Performance Upgrades
Overfinch
boosted the power of the already impressive
4.4 liter BMW-derived V8 in the new Range Rover by increasing the
displacement to 5.0 liters and installing a host of other refinements
to
enhance power,
throttle action, economy and emissions performance. A
freer-flow dual exit contoured exhaust was added, with polished
stainless steel tips. Modified transmission
ratios gave a further sizeable gain in
everyday performance. The
engine was exhaustively tested in punishing environments,
including cold
weather
testing in Russian winters, hot weather testing in the Nevada desert,
general
urban behaviour in the UK plus high
speed
work on the autobahns of Germany. The result,
known as the 580S, was a boost to 380 BHP, and 376 ft lb of torque.
The
engine was tuned to maintain high torque values over a
very broad rev range, producing effortless performance characteristics.
Interestingly the continuing BMW based 5 litre
model (580 S)
launched in 2003 posted identical 0-60 times in independent tests to
those quoted for the new Jaguar Supercharged Range Rover but with less
power and without the aid of a 6-speed automatic.
Zero
to 60 mph comes up in 7.1 seconds, and top speed was about 140 mph.
Interestingly, these figures equalled the performance of the subsequent
2006 Supercharged model introduced by Land Rover. Naturally, when the
Supercharged version came out, the 580S was discontinued, but you
should still be able to find examples on the used market.
Overfinch also made available a 480S Sports Pack for the 2003-2005
models as an
add-on package. It included:
- Re-programmed engine management ECU
- Free flow stainless steel exhaust
- Dual contoured polished oval exhaust tails
- New gear ratios
- Overfinch ovals front and rear ‘480S’ badge on tailgate
Mid-range torque was substantially improved, and the result is much
better response than can be achieved by a simple "rechipping" of the
engine. There is a 1 second improvement in 0-60 time and 2.5 seconds
improvement to 100 mph.
Braking
Brembo
and Overfinch have jointly developed a 380mm (15”) drilled,
vented and
pinned front
disc set-up with special 8 piston aluminium calipers for the 3rd
Generation Range Rover 2002 on. Extensively tested under very
severe conditions, the system offers fade free braking from frequent
high speed
stops, improved stopping distances, low heat transfer to hubs /
bearings, excellent ‘bite’ and good pad life.
Features include cross
drilled +
vented 380mm (15”) motor sport rotors, billet aluminium
mounting bells
with floating (pinned)disc anchor system, monoblock dual branded
aluminium calipers with 8 sequentially sized aluminium pistons, high
performance brake pads (4 per caliper), stainless steel braided brake
hoses (DOT/TÜV) approved), and aircraft quality mounting
brackets/fixings.

Interior Upgrades
Overfinch
interior enhancements include several alternative polished wood packs,
charcoal finish or a youthful brushed
alloy look. Replacement
steering wheels, handbrake and shifter handles are included. These combine
with additional
leather work (a
hand stitched dashboard
and/or Bentley style seating) to improve the cabin ambience and
personalise the vehicle. (pictures at right and below).
A
full range of A/V entertainment options is available, including rear
seat TV/DVD, upgraded Nav systems with the ability to display local TV
programming and DVD on the move.
Custom third row seats, foldable to allow use of the loadspace, are
also available.
The

are available for all RR III model years.

Range Rovers, a 7 Seater Option is available, providing a split folding
two person
rear facing seat system for children (see photos below).

Exterior
Upgrades
Aero packages were designed for the new body shape to reduce drag,
improve high speed stability and save fuel wthout excessively
diminishing the avialable ground clearance. These packages are still
available and are the same as for the 2006 & up models except for
the slightly different design of the front spoiler to fit the restyled
front of the later model. Other avialable exterior features include the
dual-tip stainless steel exhausts. All
options are
available
individually or as packages.
